Why Planning

Whether natural disasters, humanitarian crises, or unforeseen emergencies, the responsibility falls on the media to relay information with sensitivity, accuracy, and a commitment to the truth. Planning your work serves as a comprehensive  resource to covering catastrophes, offering insights, tips, and ethical considerations to ensure responsible and impactful reporting.

Inform effectively and responsibly

We help you navigate chaotic scenarios, communicate with empathy, and convey crucial information while protecting yourself and those affected by natural disasters.

Operational Guide

A lot of small newsrooms don’t have emergency plans because they think it’s out of their scope. You don’t have to have everything solved from the beginning, you can plan little by little, step by step.

Editorial Guide

The interpretation and facts presentation are some of the subjects you need to approach the editorial news creation. The tone, perspective, and way of presenting the information help you to be consistent with the editorial and ethical line .

Wellness Guide

Developing a comprehensive Wellness Plan can serve as a proactive measure to mitigate certain stressors and facilitate recovery for journalists and media workers who are inevitably impacted by their work.

about us

PressGuides.org was created by Maria Arce as her final project at the Knight Wallace Fellowship 2022-2023, University of Michigan. ARENA, a toolkit designed to integrate the resilience of amateur radio into the operations of newsrooms, was her project during the RJI Innovation Fellowship at the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri between 2023 and 2024. These guides were also possible thanks to the mentorship received by the Ochberg Fellowship at the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma at the University of Columbia.
